It’s often thought that most of Pompeii was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, but clearly this thing wasn’t.
 
The truth is that this is a modern statue that has only recently been a feature within the ruins. This image, entitled Centaur, brings some life into what could be seen as rather desolate surroundings, with the wideness and brightness of the sky offering a real sense of optimism.
